Tarantino’s Tribute to Los Angeles & Film “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” pt.1

Living in Los Angeles and seeing the scenes from 1960’s is a special event, add a group of A-List stars, and notorious filmmaker director, Quentin Tarantino and the world is anew!

I moved to LA six years ago from the east coast with a love of filmmakers, movies and yes, their history! Thanks to Quentin Tarantino the summer and fall of 2018 was filled with all of the above and more! He changed the landscape and brought many historic landmarks and vintage theaters, long forgotten and some very neglected until his film crew arrived.

Add a very talented, dream filled cast and his devoted crew to make his 9th film,

“Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” a highly popular film event and piece of movie making history. The film is presenting a story of the days of Hollywood during the hippies, easy- going free love lifestyle, and movie world and the turn of events surrounding the actress, Sharon Tate murders that horrified the land to this day.

This summer in 2019 we are seeing the transformation and the excitement occur again! This time with billboards and events leading up to the July 26th release date.

The first showing of “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” was at the Cannes film festival in May and was highly attended and acknowledged. I say that as no ‘endings’ have leaked in the press - per his request in a letter asking for secrecy. He and the cast got a standing ovation and a most captivating red carpet event. Now the online and marketing is in full motion and the streets of LA are popping! Sunset Boulevard has giant, neon lit billboards of the faces many adore including Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Pacino, and Margot Robbie. Add to this the late Luke Perry who’s role was the last of his career and Mike Moh as Bruce Lee. The Whiskey A Go-Go is covered from top to bottom and all sides. Hollywood Tour Buses are now stopping in front of the Comedy Central for more than laughs during the day and nights to show off the giant Leonardo DiCaprio as Rick Dalton facing the street and Brad Pit whose smile is as bright as the neon lettering his role, Cliff Booth. The title even has it’s own billboards “Once Upon A Time” in Hollywood has the 60’s type many times along the way.

Rick Dalton is getting lots of attention these days. Even the tour buses are stopping to ‘see’ the billboards.

Check out the Earl Carroll Theater - the venue was redecorated in the psychedelic art style of 1968 Aquarius Theater for the "Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” movie filming. This historic landmark was famous during the 60’s for its’ many rock concerts, Hair, and The Doors performance on July 21, 1969. Now it’s adorning the posters of Rick Dalton and Bruce Lee, aka Leonardo DiCaprio and Mike Moh.

The excitement now is in watching the billboards, posters, and screenings cover the streets of Los Angeles where much of the film was filmed here. This marketing and the screenings are another way Quentin Tarantino is showing his love of filmmaking and Hollywood, the home of movies for a century. Thank you, Quentin Tarantino for your contribution to film and restoring our LA history in these ways!
